For years I‘ve made myself available to people on the telephone, providing free technical information about dirt bikes in an effort to build my business and survey riders’ mechanical problems to fuel my technical writings. Nowadays I have over 7,000 mail-order customers and more than 75,000 books have been sold at mainstream bookstores and motorcycle shops in North America, Europe, and Australia. The resultant telephone traffic is unruly, with people calling non-stop around the clock without any regard for my time. Many of the people who call me are mechanics and engine builders looking for key information that they earn a living with. The other majority is people who have a frustrating mechanical problem that they can’t solve and their local motorcycle dealers won’t help them with unless they are willing to check the bike into the service department for an undetermined charge.

I’ve switched over to a cell phone and that costs me money to operate. If you want to place an order and buy something, that’s great! You can do that for free. If you want to ask technical questions, you’ll be asked for a Visa/Mastercard and be charged $2 a minute. If you don’t think that is fair, try calling your local motorcycle shop and ask to talk to a mechanic and see what the service manager has to say about that request. This is the only dirt bike technical answering service you’ll find. I’ll either save you money, or make you money, but I’m not going to pay to help you. You can pay to help yourself.
