Have you ever wondered why all new stock dirt bikes are not created equal? The reason is because production tolerances are so lenient. The secret to the success of factory-sponsored amateurs is the ability for race mechanics to hand-pick the cylinders and heads from a huge supply at the factory’s parts warehouse.
The new “Slip-On” rule passed by the AMA for stock classes, enables cylinders to be replated to stock size and the ports to be “blue-printed” to the port-timing specifications printed in the factory service manual. The rule says that cylinder material can be added but not removed in a big way like porting. That means we can perform structural welding to the ports in order to improve reliability and repair damage from broken piston and rings, or detonation and coolant leaks. You don’t have to buy an expensive new cylinder just because you race the stock class. Dirt bike cylinders may be manufactured in Japan and Europe but Forward Motion Super-Stock cylinders are “Made Better in America.”
Our technicians use CNC machine tools and precision hand-grinders to make the porting specifications exactly like the original factory engineers intended. Casting flaws that could pose a danger to the rider if they broke loose, are removed as part to the normal cylinder repair process. The port edges are chamfered and polished so they don’t snag the piston ring. Gasket surfaces are machined perpendicular to the bore and parallel to the crankcases and head so the piston doesn’t create useless friction that causes a drag on the piston and wear it out prematurely. For the cylinder head we’ll resurface it and re-index the squish-band and re-chamber the dome for factors like fuel types and even high altitude applications.
We combine our high quality machine work with WISECO GP forged piston kits featuring legal low-friction coatings on the piston and ring, and COMETIC gaskets that drive home the theme of “Made Better in America.” Some of our customers are sponsored by Vertex, Athena, or Wossner piston companies. In European countries those parts are readily available. We offer the option of these premium-priced piston and gasket kits and you’re welcome to supply your own piston for finish sizing the cylinder.
Millennium’s new SUPER-STOCK package also includes cylinder head resurfacing and powervalve service. Our technicians are experts at polishing and timing the powervalve components, and they have access to new OE parts so they can replace damaged parts that steal horsepower through friction and premature wear. The OE parts are discounted to be competitive with the big mail-order parts suppliers so you don’t have the worries of getting “hosed” like some of the big hop-up shops do.
SUPER-STOCK top ends are honed to a race ready finish and the powervalves are assembled and timed so you won’t have to stress-out about buying an expensive manual and fumbling through a technically difficult procedure written by non-mechanical lawyers. We take care of that for you. We check the ring-end gap too and assemble the piston kit and install it in the cylinder with 1 circlip locked in for your convenience and to reduce the time from taking your top-end assembly from the box to the bike.
Aren’t we all sick of hearing about the great recession? Ain’t nothing great about it! At Forward Motion we’re all about “The Great Recovery.” Why spend your hard-earned money helping the economy of foreign countries when you can be a part of helping America’s recovery? FM employs Americans and sources parts and supplies from American companies.
New OE parts are ridiculously priced, especially European parts. Why should your race-dollars bail-out their Euro-crash when you can stash more of your own cash? Our SUPER-STOCK package is a fraction of the price of new OE replacement parts. Check out the listings for model and pricing.
