It’s all in your head! The cylinder head has the most fragile moving parts and is the number 1 source of catastrophic engine failures on a 4-stroke dirt bike or ATV. If you fix it before it destroys your engine, you’ll save a lot of money. We can fix most things for less money than the manufacturers charge for new cylinder heads.

Our Cylinder Head Porting package will improve the performance and longevity of your engine with preventive maintenance and performance parts. We use high quality American-made parts like KPM Black Diamond from California and Xceldyne valve train parts from North Carolina. Stainless steel or titanium, we can recommend the best parts for your riding demands. If you fix it before it destroys your engine, you’ll save a lot of money. BIG BORE KITS From $475

Most 250F cylinders can be bored 2-3mm or 262 and 270cc. Most 450s can go 2-4mm as well. These kits include over-boring, plating, honing, and surface decking to the cylinder and a premium piston kit like Wossner, Wiseco, Vertex, JE, and CP with over-sized Cometic EST gasket kits…the standard for turboed sport compact cars. Big bores improve the throttle response and torque across the rev range and enable you to run a hotter cam to extend the mid-range to top end pull!

TECH TIPS FOR MODERN 4-STROKE DIRT BIKES AND ATVs

Here is a list of recommended service intervals for intermediate amateur riders quoted in engine running hours.

  • Check crankcase oil level every 20 minutes
  • Oil and filter change 1 hour
  • Valve adjustment 5hrs (KPM or Xceldyne stainless steel valves 25hrs)
  • Piston change 10hrs (Wiseco piston 50hrs)
  • Cylinder head service with valve train replacement 50hrs for 250Fs. KPM/Xcel 150-200hrs, for 450FsKPM/Xcel 250-400hrs.
  • Bottom-end engine rebuild with crank and bearing replacement 75hrs (Hot-Rod heavy-duty crank and bearing kit 200hrs)

SERVICE INTERVALS for 250Fs STOCK & MOD

Mike Emery Racing

The average stock 250F costs $30 per engine hour to operate for a novice to intermediate racers who never hit the rev limiter. Expert amateurs? Figure $90hr. This is only a contribution to engine parts and performance machining using OEM replacement parts, not gas and oil. Pro Supercross Lites racers can expect to budget $1,000hr. The reason the price increases so dramatically is that the engine has to be built to the edge to be competitive and the racer’s demands are greater. The average hours per season of practice and racing in a 7-month season is 50 hours, that’s about $1,500 in engine maintenance per year for the average amateur racer.

SERVICE INTERVALS for 450Fs STOCK & MOD

The average stock 450F costs $20 per engine hour to operate for beginner and intermediate riders who never hit the rev limiter. Expert amateurs? Figure $75hr. This is only a contribution to engine parts and performance machining using OEM replacement parts, not gas and oil.
